Aerial View of Carrabelle Florida

Carrabelle is located on the coast of the Florida panhandle. This charming, tiny town just southwest of Tallahassee is known for its incredible fishing and water access. Not only can you slip right out into the Gulf of Mexico from Carrabelle, but you can also enjoy and fish the Carrabelle River and the flats and grasses around Dog Island. But fishing isn’t the only thing Carrabelle offers, and we have a list of things to do in Carrabelle that will easily satisfy land lovers from all over.

Beach

Carrabelle Beach is a natural, undeveloped Florida beach with white sands and slow descent into the Gulf of Mexico. Families love Carrabelle Beach for its calm, lapping waves, sandbars, and shallow waters because it is perfect for little ones and those unsure of themselves in the water. Carrabelle Beach is also pet-friendly, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a pooch who doesn’t love this long sandy beach.

Camping

Camping in Carrabelle can be however you want it. The area offers several campsites ranging from primitive to luxury resort camping. These small campgrounds fill up fast! Take your pick and reserve your spot ASAP.

History

Carrabelle is an old-Florida, small-town with a fascinating story to tell. The Carrabelle History Museum, the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum, and the Crooked River Lighthouse Museum will reveal a good bit of the Carrabelle history, including a captivating mix of Indians, shipping, bootlegging, logging, and war. We highly encourage you to take an afternoon to stroll through these wonderful museums.

Crooked River Lighthouse

The Crooked River Lighthouse is a workout that is worth it if for nothing but the unbelievable view. Built in 1895 to guide ships through the East Pass, it is the tallest iron and steel structure on the Forgotten Coast, standing at 103 feet. The lighthouse is open Wednesday through Sunday, but they also have monthly unique Full Moon nighttime events. At these Full Moon Climbs, visitors are encouraged to climb, watch the sunset and the full moon, and enjoy evening activities on the grounds like live music, bonfires, or drum circles.

Carrabelle Country Market

The Carrabelle Country Market, scheduled every first and third Saturday of the month, is located at the Crooked River Lighthouse. This delightful market features freshly roasted coffee, baked goods, local fruits and veggies, and more!  It’s worth setting the alarm to visit this fun, local event.

Don’t let the small-town feel fool you. Carrabelle is big with history, fun, food, and fishing!  Sign up to receive our newsletter with the latest events and area information.
