What to eat

You simply can’t visit the Forgotten Coast without sampling our fresh seafood, southern favorites, or barbecue. You could sample your way through our many family-friendly restaurants or stop by one of our local outdoor markets, seafood markets, or grocery stores to prepare your meals at your vacation rental!

What to do

Now it’s time to plan your ultimate stay at your home away from home! Spring is a beautiful time to explore the great outdoors on the Forgotten Coast!

Whether you love shoppinggolfinghikingboating, sightseeing, or fresh local seafood with a cold craft beer, there’s something here for everyone. Most places within the county welcome well-mannered fur babies. Plan ahead to see where to bring the entire family, don’t forget the leash!

The Forgotten Coast makes renting bicycles or golf carts as easy as a phone call! You can cruise on our wide paved bicycle paths or go off-road and cruise through neighborhoods and scenic trails to see what coastal life is like.

Never run out of things to do on the water around here! The Forgotten Coast offers a large host of rentals for ultimate fun on the water! Whether you want to learn how to paddleboard, kayak, or if you have been wanting to take the family out on a private boat, we have you covered!

Want to learn a little about the unique coastal ecology of the Forgotten Coast? Take a trip to the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. ANERR offers hiking trails and boardwalks, indoor exhibits, and aquaria—the best thing is it’s all free to enjoy. It’s also a great idea to keep tucked away in case of a drizzly afternoon!

Nature lover? It’s the perfect time of year to sightsee! Take a hike and witness the natural beauty of Franklin County as winter fades and spring brings forward new life. Check out our top 10 birding locations, where you will find hundreds of different bird species in their natural habitats.

Go on a self-guided tour through town! If you love history, boy, do we have a treat for you! There are hidden secrets, as well as well-known historic landmarks around every corner. Take your time diving into the past, and visit local historic buildings and museums to see what makes our quaint little town so special.

Check out both of our local lighthouses! Witness the picturesque beauty with a birds-eye view from the top. It will be a sight that you won’t soon forget.

Who doesn’t like sitting on a boat, pier, jetty, or beach with a rod & reel in hand? The Forgotten Coast is one of Florida’s best places to fish, and the angling possibilities are endless. Charter a fishing boat for an inshore or offshore trip or stop by one of our many bait and tackle shops to pick up what you need to fish from the shore or one of our fishing piers.

If you want to get out into the deep water but fishing isn’t your thing, we’ve got the perfect solution. Charter one of our local captains for a dolphin cruise, a sunset cruise, or an airboat ride up the Apalachicola River.

Spring Break is a fantastic time on the Forgotten Coast. That first feel of the sun on your wintered skin and the thrill of knowing the school year is on the way out adds to the exciting vibe! Use our events calendar to find festivals and events taking place during your stay.
