5 Rainy Day Activities on the Forgotten Coast
By Forgotten Coast Web Team | July 1, 2021
Just as soon as the rain starts, it stops. That’s Florida weather for you. It reminds us of this old joke:
Why don’t Floridians carry an umbrella?
Because it will stop raining in five minutes.
It is the truth. However, sometimes, rain starts and stops frequently. Sometimes, lounging in the sun on the beach isn’t an option. If this is the case, don’t worry! We are thrilled to offer five great rainy day activity suggestions that could keep you busy for days.
Drop-in Art Class
Art of Glass on St. George Island has a drop-in art class called Bits and Pieces. The terrific course is one hour and promises amusing creativity and productivity for both children and adults.
ANERR, the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve in Eastpoint, has a fascinating nature center and indoor display with aquariums, live snakes, exhibits about our area’s wildlife, and more. You could occupy fun-loving little people for hours at this fantastic resource.
Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and St. George Island have many impressive and engaging museums. Unfortunately, there are too many to mention here, but you can go to our Museums Page for a complete list.
The Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle and the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island offer charming museums, cool gift shops, and, of course, a luminous bird’s eye view from the top! Climbing up these massive towers is also an excellent way for courageous little ones to burn some energy.
It’s a no-brainer. The Forgotten Coast offers an eclectic variety of shopping experiences, from exclusive boutiques to surf shops and seafood markets. Gather the whole crew and spend the day shopping and sampling local restaurants in Carrabelle, Eastpoint, Apalachicola, or St. George Island!
The truth is that Florida’s tropical beauty requires rain. So, the trick is to look at rainy days as a gift of time to pursue other interests and activities. And just like we said before, it will stop raining soon. We promise.
