Fishing Rubbing Art-Making Workshop

The Carrabelle Artist Association is hosting their annual Fish Rubbing event on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the St. James Bay Golf Resort in the Fountain Room. The 2023 Fish Rubbing event provides a fun, hands-on session where participants will make their own piece of unique, nautical art to take home. This event will feature an Asian theme and will also include food and music.

Gyotaku (pronounced Gee-oh-tak-oo) or the art of fish rubbing is a traditional form of Japanese art. Fish rubbing is a form of printing on rice paper using local fish. Materials and in-person instruction are provided for guests to make a frame-able piece of fish rubbing art to take home. Anyone who would like to make an additional fish rubbing may bring a t-shirt, apron, tea towel, or other cloth item to make a second fish rubbing. The fish rubbing will be done with acrylic paint.

There will be two sessions available – 10 am-12pm and 1-3 pm – with tickets presold for each session. Cost is $15 in advance or $18 at the door. All proceeds go to support the Carrabelle Artist Association. For information, call or text Marian Morris at (850) 294-9664 or email her at morrispottery@gmail.com.
