Fish Rubbing Art Workshops

The Carrabelle Artist Association is hosting their annual Fish Rubbing Event on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Carrabelle Senior Center at 201 NW Avenue F, Carrabelle, FL. The 2024 Fish Rubbing event is open to the public and provides a fun, hands-on session where participants will make their own piece of unique, nautical art to take home. This event will feature an Asian theme and will also include food and music.

Gyotaku (pronounced Gee-oh-tak-oo) or the art of fish rubbing is a traditional form of Japanese art. Fish rubbing is a form of printing on rice paper using local fish. Materials and in-person instruction are provided for guests to make a frame-able piece of fish rubbing art to take home. Anyone who would like to make an additional fish rubbing may bring a t-shirt, apron, tea towel, or other cloth item to make a second fish rubbing. The fish rubbing will be done with acrylic paint.

There will be two sessions available – 10 am-12pm and 1-3 pm – with tickets presold for each session. Reservations are recommended. Cost is $15 in advance or $18 at the door and includes one fish rubbing on rice paper. Additional Fish Rubbings on Fabric are $5. Food will be available to purchase at this event. Call or text for info or advance tickets or go online. Please indicate AM or PM session.

All proceeds go to support the Carrabelle Artist Association. All are welcome. For tickets or more information, call or text Marian Morris at 850-294-9664 or email her at morrispottery@gmail.com.
