Fort Gadsden Historic Site

Explore a powerful chapter of Florida history at Fort Gadsden Historic Site, located at Prospect Bluff along the Apalachicola River. During the early 1800s, the site was home to a British-built fort that became a refuge and community for formerly enslaved people and Native Americans before its destruction in 1816. Fort Gadsden was later constructed on the same site during the First Seminole War.

Today, visitors can walk the historic grounds, see remnants of the fortifications and learn about the people and events that shaped this nationally significant site. Located within the Apalachicola National Forest, the area also features a short interpretive trail, picnic facilities and scenic views of the Apalachicola River.
