2026 Summer Fishing Report
By Forgotten Coast Web Team | July 15, 2026

Summer is one of the best times to experience fishing on Florida’s Forgotten Coast. 🎣 Warm Gulf waters, long days, and an abundance of fish make Franklin County a favorite destination for anglers. Whether you’re fishing from the beach, exploring Apalachicola Bay, or heading offshore with a local charter, there’s no shortage of opportunities to reel in your next catch.
Bay Fishing
Summer fishing in Apalachicola Bay is consistently productive, with anglers targeting speckled trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, black drum, tripletail, whiting, pompano, and Spanish mackerel.
The best fishing is usually found during the early morning and late evening hours when water temperatures are cooler. Oyster bars, grass flats, bridge pilings, and channel edges all provide excellent habitat for summer fish. Live shrimp remains one of the most dependable baits, while artificial lures can also produce excellent results when fish are actively feeding.

Offshore Fishing
Summer is peak season for offshore fishing on Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Depending on current Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulations, anglers may have opportunities to target red snapper, grouper, king mackerel, mangrove snapper, vermilion snapper, and other popular Gulf species.
Local reefs, natural ledges, and artificial structures provide outstanding fishing throughout the summer months. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, booking a local fishing charter is one of the best ways to experience offshore fishing. Experienced captains know where the fish are biting and can help you make the most of your day on the Gulf.
Freshwater Fishing
The Apalachicola River offers a completely different fishing experience and is an excellent option during the summer. Anglers regularly catch largemouth bass, bream, shellcracker, and catfish throughout the river system.
Fishing around fallen timber, creek mouths, and shaded banks can produce consistent action, especially during the cooler morning hours. The peaceful scenery and abundant wildlife make a day on the river just as enjoyable as the fishing itself.
