“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”
– Elmer Davis

Here in Franklin County, we salute our nation’s heroes every single day of the year. However, during Veterans Day weekend, our coastal communities go the extra mile to express our gratitude to the brave men and women who have served.

This Veterans Day weekend, Florida’s Forgotten Coast will host a variety of special ceremonies and activities to honor veterans. Whether you’re a member of the community or just visiting for the long holiday weekend, we invite all veterans, families and friends of veterans and patriotic citizens to join us for the following events:

INConcert Series: Bay Area Choral Society Veterans Day Program

Sunday, November 10 @ 4 – 5 pm, Carrabelle Christian Center
The Bay Area Choral Society presents a special Veterans in Music concert at the Carrabelle Christian Center. Featuring conductor Dana Langford and Pianist Janis Ramos, this moving concert will showcase popular music from the WWII era, including “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To,” “A Salute to the Armed Forces,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and other favorites. During the concert, our nation’s veterans will be recognized.

The doors open at 3:30 pm, and the concert begins at 4 pm. Tickets are $5 per person with a donation recommended, payable in cash at the door. Concert proceeds will benefit the Bay Area Choral Society and Camp Gordon Johnston WW II Museum.

Cape St. George Lighthouse Veterans Day Ceremony

Monday, November 11 @ 11 am, Lighthouse Park, St. George Island
During this special Veterans Day Ceremony, the St. George Lighthouse will honor all of those who have served our great nation. Join us as we recognize and pay tribute to our country’s courageous veterans!

Special Veterans Day Full Moon Lighthouse Climb

Monday, November 11 @ 12 – 8 pm, Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle
This Veterans Day, the Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle will honor those who have served in a very special way. The lighthouse will be open for extended hours, from 12 – 8 pm, on Monday, November 11. All military veterans are invited to tour the museum and climb the Crooked River Lighthouse for FREE all day long. (All others are also welcome. The cost for non-veterans to climb is $5.)

Later in the evening, from 5-8 pm, visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for breathtaking views of the bay under the glow of the sunset and the rising full moon. For this very special full moon climb, the lighthouse will feature live music from popular Afro-Cuban drummer Master Yazid along with several of his fellow drummers—a group called “Cinco Mas Cervezas.” Guests can also enjoy s’mores around the new fire pit. The full moon climb is FREE for veterans and $8 for all others. The museum and gift shop will also be open until 8 pm. All climbers must be 44 inches tall.
