Oyster Cook Off in Apalachicola Florida

Now is the time to book your trip for Apalachicola’s 9th Annual Oyster Cook-Off! This exciting event will be held at Riverfront Park in downtown Apalachicola on Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, 2019.

This annual cookoff is a benefit for the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department. All proceeds go directly towards paying for the brand-new fire truck they were able to purchase a few years ago—all thanks to this fundraising event!

This year’s exciting event will feature live music, tons of activities for the kiddos, a silent auction, local beer, dance performances and a fun run! What’s on the menu, you ask? Our vendors will serve up an array of delicious dishes, including shrimp, smoked mullet, hot dogs, hamburgers and, of course, oysters aplenty.

Plus, you can bring your pooch along with you! Well-mannered, leashed pets are welcome to attend.

This fun-filled, two-day event will feature the following highlights:

Silent Auction: Preview a range of oyster-related silent auction items on Friday night. Then, the auction continues throughout the day on Saturday. There is also a “buy-it now” option, so be sure to arrive early to snag your favorite items.

Half-Shell Hustle Fun Run: Don’t miss this 5.5K fun run on Saturday, January 19th! All participants will receive a super-cool t-shirt, and medals will be handed out to winners from each category. Registration begins at 7 am at Riverfront Park, and the race kicks off at 8 am.

The Cook-Off: Of course, the main event is the oyster cook-off! Enter your best oyster recipe for the chance to win. The top three winners will receive a trophy. To participate, you must submit the name of your dish and the $25 entry fee no later than January 11, 2019. Finalists must provide all ingredients, mixing, cooking utensils and heat source. (No electricity will be available during the cook-off.) Fresh oysters will be provided, and finalists will have two hours to prepare and cook their recipe. The judges will select the top three winners based on originality, predominance of oysters, taste and presentation. This contest is open to everyone!
