DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is hosting the Carrabelle Culture Crawl on Saturday\, March 28 from 10 am to 3 pm. This cultural event is a free celebration of local culture\, art\, music\, history\, food\, and fun at the Carrabelle History Museum and throughout downtown Carrabelle. This is a fantastic chance for visitors to have some fun and experience the wonderful local culture of Carrabelle. The Carrabelle History Museum is located at SE 106 Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. \nThe Crawl will bring live music and entertainment to the streets of Carrabelle\, with Florida folk music\, classic country\, modern hits\, gospel\, and oldies. A variety of musicians will be performing including Frank Lindamood\, Sumpin’ Old & Sumpin’ New\, Jhaki and Robert Davis\, Elijah Cole Allen\, and Shaken & Stirred. Visitors will spot fun\, costumed characters from the Fishy Fashion Show by Joan Matey wandering the streets. These walking photo ops are a fan-favorite. Plus\, the talented Lydia Countryman and friends will delight the crowd with their life-size dog puppets walking the streets. \nArt will abound at the Crawl featuring local artists and artisans. Visitors can watch as artists paint “plein air” offering a glimpse at the creative process in action. Shops and galleries will feature lots of artwork available for viewing and buying. The always popular public art drawing and coloring activity will be hung in storefront windows as well as sidewalk chalk and other family friendly art activities. There will be special activities at the Rio Carrabelle Gallery for kids and adults. Guests can also stroll over to see Carrabelle’s two large\, stunning murals. \nClassic\, vintage\, and modern cars will roll into the Crawl\, offering a stunning showcase for auto enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy demos and displays highlighting traditional skills that connect with the craftsmanship of the past. Features include quilting\, cast net throwing\, blacksmithing\, pottery sculpting\, turpentining\, rug making\, arrowheads and more. \nCarrabelle’s food scene will shine with favorites like shrimp and crab cakes\, plus hearty options like burgers and mile-high deli sandwiches. Sweet treats include donuts\, smoothies and energy teas. Plus local food trucks will be serving up even more delicious options including Sour Puss Gourmet Lemonade with a variety of delicious\, refreshing lemonades. \nSeveral talented authors\, including Michael Kinnett\, Kermit Brown\, Royce Rolstad\, Charles Schultz and Shelby Day\, will be participating\, signing and discussing their books. Guests can learn about the culture and history of the area with exhibits at the Carrabelle History Museum including Shipwrecks of Dog Island; Tate’s Hell; and the Native People’s display. Visitors can discover the bygone eras when lumber merchants\, steamships\, and shrimping vessels lined the deep Carrabelle River.

SUMMARY:Carrabelle History Museum Expands Military Tribute Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is honored to announce a special additional display for its Veteran Tribute Exhibit in recognition of Veterans Day. The Veteran Tribute Exhibit  pays heartfelt tribute to several local men who bravely served in the armed forces from World War I through Vietnam. Deeply meaningful to the community\, this display has touched the hearts of local families and visitors alike. The special addition will be on display from Wednesday\, November 5 through Sunday\, November 30\, 2025. \nThe exhibit continues to celebrate military veterans with strong ties to Carrabelle and Franklin County\, sharing their personal stories of courage\, service\, and sacrifice. In honor of Veterans Day\, this year’s special addition will be Aviation Radioman Petty Officer Second Class David Learoy Rickards. David Rickards was born on October 12\, 1921 in Carrabelle to Omer “O. E.” Rickards\, a fisherman\, and Della Rickards. \nAt the age of 20\, David Learoy Rickards registered for military service in Franklin County. At the time he was working  for J.T. Millinor in Carrabelle\, FL. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio operator aboard naval aircraft\, a critical part of the aircrew. \nOn May 30\, 1944\, Rickards died while in service to his country when the Naval aircraft that he was aboard tragically crashed near Chincoteague Naval Auxiliary Air Station in Virginia. The crash\, which happened while the crew were attempting an emergency landing\, took the lives of all eleven of the crew. There is a plaque at the Carrabelle Airport in memory of him and two others. His story reflects the deep local roots and ultimate sacrifice of so many Franklin County service members. \nIn the Veterans Exhibit\, visitors will find a moving collection of artifacts offering a glimpse into their experiences both in uniform and at home. The museum extends a special thanks to the families of the honored veterans for sharing their stories and treasured items. Additionally\, the museum is grateful for the support of Lisa Keith-Lucas and Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum\, whose invaluable collaboration helped make the exhibit possible. The Carrabelle History Museum warmly invites the public to visit and celebrate the legacy of these local heroes.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Stories in Glass - A Vintage Bottle Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is pleased to announce a special display featuring vintage bottles of the Forgotten Coast. This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday\, October 1 through Sunday\, December 28. This unique exhibit will showcase a wide variety of interesting and historical bottles that tell the story of Franklin County’s heritage\, industry\, and everyday life. Visitors can explore this special exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nThe display will feature Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery bottle\, found on nearby St. Vincent Island\, once part of the estate of Dr. Raymond V. Pierce\, a physician and patent medicine maker. His products\, such as Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription\, Golden Medical Discovery\, and Pleasant Pellets\, made him a millionaire\, with nearly a million bottles shipped each year. He also founded the Pierce Glass Company\, which produced bottles for his own medicines and brands like Pond’s Extract and Lydia Pinkham. In 1907\, he purchased St. Vincent Island in Franklin County\, where he built a private preserve with roads\, cottages\, and imported game animals\, until his death on the island in 1914. \nOther highlights of the exhibit include Coca-Cola bottles bottled locally in Apalachicola. The Apalachicola Coca-Cola Bottling Plant\, in operation through the late 1970s\, is remembered for its classic green glass bottles embossed with “Apalachicola\, FLA” on the bottom. Today\, these bottles are sought-after collectibles. \nAlso on display are bottles from the shipwrecked SS Tarpon\, including cherry bottles and beer bottles. Visitors will also see medicine bottles once used by local midwife Tillie Miller\, local milk bottles\, as well as perfume bottles\, and other rare glass finds. All of which provide a glimpse into past daily life in Franklin County.

Admission is free\, with donations gratefully accepted. \nAmong the artifacts highlighted are historic city log books\, a municipal court log from the 1940s—complete with charges like fighting and disorderly conduct\, original City of Carrabelle ballot boxes and paper ballots once used in local elections\, a classic 1953 Underwood Standard Typewriter used by Assistant City Clerk Mary Mathes\, a vintage mechanical adding machine\, and the black ledger from longtime City Clerk Charles Lee Daniels\, who faithfully served Carrabelle for 34 years. These intriguing pieces tell the story of the city’s administrative past and provide a tangible connection to Carrabelle’s civic heritage.

This exhibit will be open from Wednesday\, February 5 through Sunday\, March 2. Visitors can explore the exhibit at the Carrabelle History Museum on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nThe exhibit offers an inspiring journey into the lives of just a few of the extraordinary individuals who exemplify the resilience and talent of Carrabelle’s African-American community. John C. Robinson\, the “Brown Condor” and “Father of the Tuskegee Airmen\,” overcame significant barriers to pioneer aviation achievements and contribute to Ethiopia’s resistance against Mussolini’s forces. John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil\, a celebrated Negro Leagues baseball star\, became Major League Baseball’s first African-American scout and coach\, co-founding the Negro League Baseball Museum and earning the Presidential Medal of Freedom. \nThe exhibit also shares the story of Abraham Allen\, one of Carrabelle’s original founders\, who laid a foundation for progress\, while his daughter\, Laura “Aunt Laura” Wiggins\, became a cherished midwife\, delivering babies and providing care for the community. The legacy continues with Aunt Laura’s granddaughter\, Classie Lowery\, known as the “Mother of the Hill\,” who raised and educated 26 children while dedicating herself to faith and community service.  The exhibit also honors the broader contributions of Carrabelle’s African-American community\, highlighting their vital roles in shaping the town’s early history and culture. Visitors are invited to celebrate these remarkable lives and achievements.

DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is pleased to announce a special holiday exhibit\, “Home for the Holidays” featuring the folk art paintings of historic Carrabelle by beloved local historian\, James W. “Buz” Putnal. These paintings reflect Buz’s love for Carrabelle’s heritage\, capturing iconic scenes and memories that will resonate with locals and visitors alike. \nThis nostalgic special exhibit offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience Carrabelle’s past through Buz’s artwork. The exhibit opens Wednesday\, December 4 and will run through Sunday\, January 12\, 2025\, at the Carrabelle History Museum. There will be an opening reception on Saturday\, December 7 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Visitors are welcome on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays\, Fridays\, and Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, and donations are gratefully accepted. (Closed December 25 and January 1.) \nBuz Putnal\, born on October 16\, 1936\, in Carrabelle\, spent his life dedicated to his community and family. He married his high school sweetheart\, Genevieve Carrol\, and together they raised four children. After a career with Gulf Oil Company and Buckeye Cellulose Corporation\, Buz dedicated his retirement years to exploring his passions in painting\, woodworking\, historical preservation and his family. Buz also served his community as a City Commissioner and Mayor of Carrabelle. \n“Home for the Holidays” features oil paintings that celebrate the scenic charm and historic character of Carrabelle in Buz’s folk art style. Visitors will be able to enjoy an intimate look at his depictions of the town’s landmarks and landscapes\, as Buz saw them through his eyes and brushstrokes. His book\, Echoes of Carrabelle\, further preserves Carrabelle’s heritage\, offering anecdotes and insights into the community’s unique stories. \nCommunity members and visitors are invited to celebrate the holiday season and enjoy the legacy of Buz Putnal through his artwork—a tribute to Carrabelle and a reflection of his lifelong devotion to his family\, community\, and the history of this beloved coastal town.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: “Shells and Shards”
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting a special exhibit\, “Shells & Shards”. This unique exhibit delves into the rich prehistoric history of Carrabelle\, showcasing intricate Native American pottery shards and shells that tell the stories of ancient cultural practices and daily life. This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday\, October 2 through Saturday\, October 27. The museum is open Wednesdays from 12 noon to 5 pm\, Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 12 noon to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission; donations are gratefully accepted to defray costs. \nEvery piece in this exhibit tells a story. From the shells that reveal the seafood consumed by the area’s early inhabitants to the tools crafted from discarded items\, such as conch shells repurposed into farming hoes\, these fragments come together to form a rich mosaic of our shared heritage. \nThe exhibit highlights the fascinating artifacts from Carrabelle’s earliest inhabitants\, particularly those from the Apalachee tribes. These prehistoric people lived in numerous villages along the shore of St. George Sound and the local rivers over two thousand years ago\, with over 40\,000 tribal members residing between the Apalachicola and Aucilla Rivers. \nArchaeologists have unearthed evidence of villages\, middens (ancient garbage piles)\, and burial grounds within Carrabelle’s city limits\, suggesting the area was an important trade port due to its natural deep water harbor at the confluence of three rivers. The “Shells & Shards” exhibit shares the lives of Carrabelle’s “first people.”

The museum is open Wednesdays from 12 noon to 5 pm\, Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 12 noon to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission; donations are gratefully accepted to defray costs. \nSince its opening on Saturday\, March 16\, the exhibit has interested audiences with its exploration of the legend of Tate’s Hell\, shedding light on the misadventures and fate of Cebe Tate\, and the intriguing origins behind the name of Tate’s Hell State Forest. Visitors have been treated to a captivating array of wildlife and landscape photography captured within Tate’s Hell by esteemed photographers John Spohrer and Jon Johnson. Their stunning images vividly depict the unique beauty and mystique of this legendary locale. \nAdditionally\, the exhibit showcases cultural treasures such as the iconic ballad\, “The Ballad of Tate’s Hell” by Will McLean\, performed by the talented Frank Lindamood. Also featured is the 1983 short film\, “A Tale of Tate’s Hell”\, produced by the FSU Department of Communications\, offering an unique interpretation on the Tate’s Hell legend. \n“In the folk region\, people are wedded to the land\, and the land holds memories. The people themselves possess identity and ancestry\, through continuous occupation of the same soil. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce the grand opening of a new exhibit on “Shipwrecks of Dog Island.” This Grand Opening Celebration will start on Wednesday\, October 12 at 12 noon and run through December 10 at 6 pm. The exhibit will then become a permanent installation. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nThis exhibit will explore Dog Island’s rich maritime history\, and especially focus on those shipwrecks that resulted from the Category 5 direct hit\, the “Carrabelle Hurricane” in 1899 through amazing photographs. Dog Island was a safe harbor for European explorers\, smugglers\, fishermen and lumbermen. In 2018\, Hurricane Michael uncovered parts of two ships that were wrecked during the 1899 event. Learn why these ships were visiting Carrabelle and which of our exports they took back to Europe. \nAn original video featuring expert underwater archaeologist Chuck Meide describes the process of identifying the sunken ships. It informs visitors about what to do when they come across an artifact on public land whether that’s a piece of a shipwreck\, an arrowhead\, or a piece of pottery. This exhibit was funded in part as a heritage education project by the Florida Department of State\, Division of Historic Preservation and the State of Florida. \nThis exhibit created by curator Joan Matey is the first to be installed in the museum’s refurbished upstairs. Please note that the upstairs currently can only be accessed by stairs and is therefore temporarily not accessible to those with mobility issues. An elevator has been funded through a grant and through dedicated fundraising efforts and will be installed by next summer. A special video program will also make it possible to learn about the Shipwrecks of Dog Island exhibit from downstairs to accommodate all visitors during this transition period.

DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce a special exhibit on “Carrabelle in the 1930s” that will be opening on Sunday\, May 1\, and be on display through Sunday\, May 29. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nAll month long\, the Carrabelle History Museum will be celebrating the anniversary of the original opening of the now historic City Hall Building\, which currently houses the Carrabelle History Museum. Carrabelle’s Historic City Hall first opened to the public on May 2\, 1938. This building was the result of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project and was described at the time of its construction as “one of the finest buildings in the state for a city of this size.” The structure is a two-story brick vernacular style of that period. Carrabelle’s original City Hall was constructed by Marvin N. Justiss\, a local mason of note who is said to have built half of Carrabelle. Mr. Justiss hand-made the concrete blocks in wooden forms. Each one weighs over 60 pounds. \nIn addition\, this exhibit will also explore what Carrabelle and Franklin County were like during that era. Fun\, cultural highlights will be shared as well as serious items of note happening in the world to provide context to 1930s Carrabelle. Visitors are invited to come to the museum to learn about Captain Wing’s ferry between Carrabelle and Apalachicola\, the opening of the first bridge across the Apalachicola Bay connecting Carrabelle to Apalachicola by road\, and the sinking of the Steamship Tarpon. This was the era of steamships\, ferries\, brand new bridges\, big band swing\, and jazz music\, all the while the Nazis were already consolidating power and World War II was brewing. \nThis exhibit will consist of a newly restored original jail cell door\, a display on the construction methods of the City Hall building\, historic photos of Franklin County from the 1930s\, historical newspaper articles\, plus artifacts and music from the 1930s.\n.\nCarrabelle History Museum is located\, one block from Carrabelle Harbor\, at 106 SE Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce a new special exhibit on “C. C. Land Turpentine Camp”. This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday\, March 2 through Saturday\, April 30. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nClifford C. Land\, known as C. C. Land\, founded turpentine operations in Tate’s Hell in the 1930s\, starting at High Bluff and moving to Greenpoint\, between Eastpoint and Carrabelle. Turpentine camp workers needed exceptional strength to wield the heavy hand tools and had to master skillful techniques to maximize the amount of sap they could get from a pine tree without destroying it. C.C. kept the company going until wage labor laws made it no longer feasible\, and this was the last operating turpentine camp in Franklin County. In the late 1940s\, the business converted to logging and cattle raising. \nThe exhibit shows the difficult process of gathering sap and distilling it into resin with many photos\, artifacts\, letters\, and documents from the C. C. Land Turpentine Company. An impressive array of tools unique to the turpentine trade and old hand-made wood and tin tool carriers are on display. There are bark hacks\, scrapers\, axes\, odd-shaped galvanized buckets from the late 1930s\, and a collection of different types of pots and trays used to collect the pine sap. The historic photos of the camp workers on the job reflect their skill and strength and illustrate the challenges of this long-ago profession. Aluminum tokens\, known as scrip used for purchases at the camp commissary are also part of the display\, as well as samples of the many medicinal products made from pine derivatives. \nThis amazing collection of authentic artifacts is on loan from Bonnie Allen\, granddaughter of Clifford C. Land and retired Park Services Specialist. She will be at the Carrabelle History Museum on Saturday\, March 19 from 10 am – 3 pm to further interpret her collection and discuss the turpentine industry in Franklin County. Bonnie Allen is from Apalachicola and worked with the Florida Park Service for over 35 years\, at St. George Island State Park\, St. Andrews State Park\, and most recently with Tallahassee-St. Marks Area Parks. \nCome to the museum to learn about the history of this hard way of life in Franklin County. In prehistory\, Dog Island was used as a campground by Paleo-Indians. It served as a safe harbor for European explorers and smugglers and later for fishermen and lumber tradesmen. Dog Island served as an amphibious training site during World War II. Most recently\, Hurricane Michael uncovered parts of two ships that were shipwrecked during the 1899 event. \nChuck Meide is a maritime archaeologist and the Director of the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP) for over 15 years. LAMP is a program by the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum to conduct research and maritime archaeology in St. Augustine and the State of Florida. Chuck has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Anthropology with a focus in underwater archaeology from Florida State University and has undertaken Ph.D. studies in Historical Archaeology at the College of William and Mary.  \nThere is no fee for this program. Due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited. There is no charge for this event but reservations are required. \nJohn Jordan “Buck” O’Neil was born in Carrabelle\, FL on November 13\, 1911. He became a famous first baseman and manager for the Kansas City Monarchs\, a Negro Leagues team. In 1956 he joined the Chicago Cubs as one of the first African-American scouts in Major League Baseball. Then the first African-American coach in the Major Leagues in 1962. Buck also founded the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City\, MO\, and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. \nThe History Speaker Series programs are popular and due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited to 50 attendees. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting a special exhibit on Sponge Diving in Carrabelle and the North Gulf Coast of Florida. This exhibit will be on display through Thursday\, March 31\, 2022. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nAfter the sponge industry in Greece collapsed in the late 1800s\, Greek divers brought their practices to Florida and created an extremely lucrative industry. Apalachicola\, Tarpon Springs\, and Key West emerged as top sponge trade ports. By 1900\, Apalachicola was home to two sponge warehouses and employed around 100 men. Carrabelle developed a large sponge fleet of its own during that time. \nSmall sailboats embarked on month-long harvesting trips in the northern Gulf. Each vessel carried several small dinghies. A pair of men worked each dingy with one man rowing as the other looked for sponges using a glass viewing box pressed against the surface of the water. \nThe arrival of diving technology in the early 1900s\, the diving suit\, brought more efficiency to harvesting. The diving suit enabled the men to walk along the seafloor to more quickly harvest sponges. By around the 1930s\, a combination of overharvesting\, blight\, and the invention of synthetic sponges led to the depletion of the sponge industry which virtually closed in this area at that time. In recent years sponge harvesting has made a bit of a comeback and locally-sourced sponges can once again be found in Franklin County. \nA turn-of-the-century Greek sponge diving suit complete with a helmet and weight belt is the focal point of the exhibit. The Sponge Diving exhibit also includes an authentic\, brass sponge diving helmet used by a former local diver as well as a diorama of the sponge docks\, early images\, and historical photos of Carrabelle’s sponge boats and local sponge divers plus a fascinating video of sponge diving. \nCarrabelle History Museum is located\, one block from Carrabelle Harbor\, at 106 SE Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. SUMMARY:Carrabelle History Museum:  Military Tribute Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum extends a unique display that pays tribute to several local men who served\, some of whom also sacrificed\, in our country’s armed forces.  Developed initially for Carrabelle’s Museum Day\, held on May 1\, the Military Tribute Exhibit has been so meaningful to the Carrabelle History Museum\, to the community\, and especially to these men’s families that the museum has decided\, with permission of the families\, to keep the exhibit in place through the end of the May.  May was designated as National Military Appreciation Month by Congress in 1999\, so it is especially fitting. \nThe exhibit honors five men from Carrabelle who served in the military representing World War I\, World War II\, the Korean War\, and the Vietnam War. Featured are \n\nWillie F. Grice  – WWI\nWalter J. Mallett – WWII\nDr. George Sands – WWII\nClaude L. Stokes – Korean\nRobert “Cliff” Millender – Vietnam\n\nThe Carrabelle History Museum extends a heartfelt thank you to the families of these men for sharing their stories with us and entrusting us with the care of some cherished items on display.  Tamara Allen\, Director of the Carrabelle History Museum\, said\, “I’ve heard from several family members and have even had the privilege to show the exhibit privately to some.  The reception this display has gotten from them\, and our community as a whole has been heartfelt and positive.  “A big thank you to Lisa Keith-Lucas and Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum for their assistance in making this happen. \nThe Carrabelle History Museum is located at 106 SE Avenue B\, in historic Carrabelle\, FL.  The museum and the exhibit are open Wednesday from 12:00 – 5:00\, Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday from 10:00 – 5:00\, and Sunday from 12:00 – 5:00.  There is no charge for admission\, but donations are warmly welcomed.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Commemorating the Early Days of Carrabelle
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is thrilled to announce that this exhibit is being extended thru January 31!! \nChristmas Eve will mark the 139th anniversary of the official creation of the Town of Carrabelle. The incorporation of Carrabelle was officially recorded on Christmas Eve in 1881 by Franklin County. \nIn honor of this historic date\, the Carrabelle History Museum announces the opening of a new exhibit documenting this important event. This special exhibit will open Wednesday\, December 9 at 12 pm and will be on display at the museum until January 31\, 2020 at 5 pm. The exhibit and museum are open every Wednesday and Sunday from 12-5 pm and every Thursday\, Friday and Saturday from 10 am-5 pm (except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted to help defray costs. \nThe community of “Rio Carrabella” was formed in 1877 when Oliver Hudson Kelley set up a tent on the east side of the river in Carrabelle\, moved in his wife and 5 daughters then declared himself the mayor. He began immediately to organize the community. Nineteen (19) local residents who were registered Franklin County voters signed an incorporation petition and sent it to the county. This petition established the legal city boundaries and government structure. Carrabelle was incorporated the day before Christmas 1881 so on that date\, Carrabelle officially became a town with its present name. This special exhibit will focus on introducing the Articles of Incorporation and five of the original Founding Fathers\, including Oliver Hudson Kelley. \nCarrabelle History Museum is located at 106 SE Avenue B\, in historic downtown Carrabelle\, FL. Carrabelle History Museum is thrilled to join museum stores worldwide by offering quality gifts filled with inspiration and educational value to guests\, with all purchases supporting the museum and the authors and small businesses who create many of the gifts found in the museum’s gift shop. \nDuring these uncertain times\, shoppers can look forward to Museum Store Sunday as the annual day to Be a Patron – and support museum stores and their missions.
