SUMMARY:WWII Red Ball Express Truck
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle\, FL is hosting a rare opportunity to see a famed WWII Red Ball Express Truck up-close and personal as part of the last day of its African-American Servicemen special exhibit. This piece of hard working history will be on display at the museum on Saturday\, February 29\, from 11 am – 4 pm. The museum will also be screening a movie on the Red Ball Express at 1 pm. \nAfter D-Day\, the Allied military forces made a critical push from Normandy across France. Supply lines were soon stretched to their breaking point. Without ammunition\, fuel and food\, the US Army would have soon been at a standstill. A huge trucking effort called the “Red Ball Express” was created and played a key role in the defeat of the Nazis. Nearly 75 percent of all Red Ball Express drivers were African American. \nThis unique event will close out Camp Gordon Johnston Museum’s month-long exhibit honoring the service of African American soldiers during WWII. There is no charge for this event and admission to the museum is free.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Japanese-American Internment Camps
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum presents a special exhibit on Japanese-American Internment Camps. This exhibit will be on display at the museum until January 31\, 2020.  There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. \nIn the wake of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor\, the US government ordered the internment of more than 120\,000 Japanese Americans. From 1942-1945\, ten American Relocation Camps operated in western states\, including the best known camp\, Manzanar\, now a National Historic Site. The Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum has a month-long exhibit about the life in these camps\, including video\, photographs and even a list of suggested fiction and non-fiction books related to this period in the lives of Japanese Americans during the war.
