SUMMARY:Art Exhibition for talented artist\, Cyndi Thau
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle is excited to present a delightful art exhibition featuring the art of the talented Cyndi Thau in the historic art venue\, Rio Carrabelle in Carrabelle\, Florida. Cyndi’s art has been called colorful\, inspiring\, and welcoming. Color\, form and light are the ingredients of these paintings. This beautiful art is on display now and the exhibition will run through the end of August. \nCyndi Thau has always wanted to keep art as a central focus of her life. She completed studies at Arizona State University. Her personal creations have included murals\, mosaics\, bead work and painting\, especially oil painting with a glazing technique\, becoming an instructor of this method. “I am fascinated by the forms\, colors\, depth and play of light and shadow that interact in the painting. I use thin layer upon layer of oil paint to achieve the translucency that I associate with all the things in nature.” \nIn recent years Cyndi studied the Plein Air style\, painting from direct observation. Water\, in specific the creek and ocean\, are her favorite subjects. “I love translating the movement of water onto canvas. Always flowing\, never still\, the reflection of light on and through water are both a challenge and a delight to capture”. \nCyndi resides along Florida’s Forgotten Coast where she walks the gulf coast beaches to collect shells that she uses for centerpieces in her bead work\, and continues to paint the water she so loves. Dividing her time between the studio glazing technique and painting outdoors en plein air Cyndi continues to create oil paintings with the depth and translucency she is known for. \nRio Carrabelle Art Gallery is open for new Summer Hours on Thursday-Saturdays from 10 am -3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique art and music destination located in beautiful downtown Carrabelle and features the artwork of local artists William Owen\, Pat Moore\, Barb Ryan\, Roger Leonard\, Bo May as well as Joe Kotzman. SUMMARY:Meet the Artist Reception – for Artist Bradlee Shanks
DESCRIPTION:Rio Carrabelle is inviting guests to an opening reception with outstanding artist Bradlee Shanks on Saturday\, March 25th from 6-9 pm in the historic Rio Carrabelle Building. This exhibit\, entitled Dog Island Jewels\, was inspired by the beautiful nature found on Dog Island along the Forgotten Coast\, a place for escape and discovery. The highly detailed landscapes have been described as “alluring and imaginative”. They are created by a labor-intensive process: applying up to 70 layers of braille ink\, building texture and depth in these unique pieces of art. The result is highly reflective\, causing light to move across the face of the art as the viewer approaches. The surface and colors of his work are notable for their subtle nuances and amazing vibrancy. Photographs do not do these artworks justice. They must be seen in person. Guests are encouraged to see Bradlee’s stunning art and hear from the artist himself while enjoying live music and refreshments. \nMr. Shanks is a recognized leader in the area of digitally mediated printmaking. His masterful technique constructs an intricate reality\, combining drawn\, photographic and digital processes. Bradlee says the act of making art is\, “a joyful process for me – which comes from the mind’s delight coupled with years of artistic practice. I have been a practitioner of many different kinds of processes: exploiting the language of painterly\, drawn\, digital and photomechanical printmaking. The body of work is eclectic and idiosyncratic. What inspires me is trust in the idea that something deeply personal is also\, simultaneously\, universal.” \nMr. Shanks received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the University of South Dakota and a Master’s in Fine Arts from Arizona State University. He has exhibited in over 150 national and international group exhibitions\, in addition to exhibits at the University of Alabama\, Auburn University\, the University of Georgia\, University of Alaska and Tampa area galleries. \nIn addition to his extensive exhibitions\, Mr. Shanks has served as a panelist and demonstrator at numerous national and international printmaking conferences. His work is in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC\, the Fogg Museum in Boston\, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City. He was a professor and the head of Printmaking at the University of South Florida for 34 years until he retired in 2020. (And is now a full-time artist.) \nThis exhibition of Bradlee’s distinctive and engaging artworks is on display at Rio Carrabelle Art Gallery Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 am -3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique non-profit art and music destination located in beautiful Carrabelle. Visit www.riocarrabelle.com for more information or on Facebook\, The Gallery At Rio Carrabelle.

DESCRIPTION:Rio Carrabelle’s music series continues on Saturday\, January 28 at 7:30 pm with a collaboration of exceptional music and stunning art in the historic Rio Carrabelle. This week Rio will be delighted by the sounds of the talented Post Modern Jazz Trio. This dynamic jazz trio is made up of Florida A&M University Music Professor and bassist\, Brian Hall\, along with Joe Goldberg on saxophone and piano and Nygel Anderson on drums. They bring the music of their youth and all their various musical experiences to meet the “jazz tradition”. According to the Post Modern Jazz Trio\, “We converse with it in a way that both acknowledges and upholds it – secretly crossing our fingers behind our backs and whispering to each other all the while. We shift gears up and down\, sideways & slantways. We’re never quite sure where we’ll end up. But isn’t that the point?” \nRio Carrabelle is a unique non-profit art and music destination located in the heart of Carrabelle. Additional music series performances continue on Saturday\, February 11 with composer and vocalist\, Darryl Tookes\, returning from NYC. And then rounding out the concert series will be Hot Mess with some cool Blues & Zydeco on Saturday\, February 25. Guests will enjoy these talented musical artists while being surrounded by the works of some gifted visual artists. Paintings by Roger Leonard are featured along with works by the talented Bill Owen\, Joe Kotzman\, Pat Moore\, and Bo May. Art by Roger Leonard is on display through the end of February. \nAll musical performances will be enjoyed in an intimate Cabaret-style listening room and are BYOB. SUMMARY:An Evening with the Artist\, Roger Leonard
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle is hosting a special Meet the Artist Reception with the remarkable painter\, Roger Leonard on Saturday\, November 12th from 6:00-9:00 pm in the historic and unique art venue\, Rio Carrabelle in Carrabelle\, Florida. Roger is a graduate of Ringling School of Fine Art in Sarasota\, Florida and has won numerous awards including several from the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. The reception\, in honor of an exhibition of Roger’s work currently on display in the Rio\, will feature music and refreshments. \nThis art exhibition\, of primarily marine landscapes\, has been described as contemplative\, striking and mesmerizing. Roger’s art reflects his love of the secret parts of Florida. In his paintings he explores places like Dog Island\, Indian Pass\, Tate’s Hell\, Dead Lakes as well as the Everglades. His attention to the details of these forgotten\, isolated places infuses the viewer with a feeling of solitude and mystery. Roger says\, “Art\, for me\, is strictly my need to do it! I need to capture the time\, the place\, and the feeling of being there\, of knowing my subject intimately and rendering it honestly\, completely. When I hear comments like: ‘I know that place … I can feel the heat\, hear the solitude. I can smell the sea\, and feel the rain.’ … Then I know they sense what I saw. And they know what my art is about.” \nRoger Leonard worked in commercial art for over 20 years in advertising\, commercial art\, design & illustration. Roger lived almost in seclusion on Dog Island for 15 years continually inspired by the rural and remote environment. During that time he developed his own distinctive vision. Currently a resident of Carrabelle\, FL\, he now divides his time between Dog Island and his Carrabelle home. His professional affiliations include the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society\, Signature Member; Oil Painters of America; American Society of Marine Artists; and American Impressionists Society\, Inc. \nThe Gallery is open Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 am-3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique non-profit art & music destination located in beautiful Carrabelle. Visit www.riocarrabelle.com for more information or find us on Facebook at The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle. \nPlease note: this event was originally scheduled for Sat Oct 1 and was rescheduled due to uncertainty with Hurricane Ian.

Guests are invited to a special Meet & Greet with Roger Leonard on Saturday\, October 1st from 6-9 pm at Rio Carrabelle with food\, drink & music. \nRoger Leonard graduated from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota\, Florida in 1974 and has won numerous awards. The joy for me is the creating and the painting\, then watching and listening to those who enjoy it also. When I hear people’s comments like\, “I know that place – I can feel the heat – I can smell the rain\, the sea – I’d really like to walk there – That looks like what I feel\,” then I know they sense what I saw.” says Roger Leonard. \nRoger lived and worked in a studio/home on Dog Island for 15 years\, in a rural and isolated environment that inspired him. He now divides his time between Dog Island and his home and studio on River Road in Carrabelle. His professional affiliations include the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society\, Signature Member; Oil Painters of America; American Society of Marine Artists; and American Impressionists Society\, Inc. \nRio Carrabelle Art Gallery is open Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 am -3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique non-profit art & music destination located in beautiful downtown Carrabelle. Visit riocarrabelle.com or on Facebook\, The Gallery At Rio Carrabelle\, for more information.
