SUMMARY:Magical Jellyfish Lantern-Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will once again be offering one of their very popular lantern-making workshops. This one on November 8 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Lanark Boat Club at 2364 Hwy 98 East\, Carrabelle\, FL. Wonderful volunteer\, Lisa Keith-Lucas\, will guide attendees in making the very popular Jellyfish Lanterns! These enchanting lanterns are highly admired at Lantern Fest and are fairly easy to make. \nBasic materials\, instruction and hands on help will be provided at the workshop. Attendees are invited to bring any additional materials they may like to really personalize their creations! Cost is $10 a person to cover the cost of materials. Participants will be able to explore their creative side and personalize their lantern to make it uniquely their own.  At the end of the workshop\, attendees will go home with their own lovely\, finished lantern. Participants are encouraged to bring their glowing creation to the Crooked River Lighthouse for Lantern Fest on the same day from 6-10 pm to add to the awesome display. \nSpaces are limited. Reservations are required to participate in this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Looking for a break from Christmas music? Warm up with some tunes to get you through the cold season at the annual Blues & BBQ Full Moon Event at Crooked River Lighthouse on Sunday\, December 15\, from 6:00-9:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special outdoor event will feature live Blues music\, a glowing bonfire at the fire pit\, and a delicious BBQ meal. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the sunset and rising Cold Moon. \nVisitors can enjoy an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit of the lighthouse’s original\, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. Guests can browse the unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. \nFor this special event\, admission tickets are required. Purchase early and save—tickets are $17 if bought by December 7\, or $22 from December 8 until they sell out. Admission includes live music\, a bonfire\, a delicious BBQ plate\, and access to the museum. Evening climbs are also available for an additional fee. Tickets can be purchased in the gift shop or online at www.crookedriverlighthouse.com/full-moon-events. \nFor those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast\, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Evening climbs cost $10 and timed climb tickets are needed due to limited availability. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Children 12 and under are FREE with a ticketed adult.

DESCRIPTION:The St. George Lighthouse Association\, in partnership with SGI Veterans Reveille Group and the 106th American Legion in Apalachicola\, invite everyone to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony in Lighthouse Park on Monday\, November 11\, 2024\, at 11 AM.  This year’s ceremony will feature special guest\, Colonel Tyler A. “Bjork” Niebuhr\, United States Air Force (USAF)\, as our keynote speaker and our own Franklin County High School Cadet Core will be providing color guard services. \nGuest Speaker\, Colonel Tyler Niebuhr is the Commander\, 325th Operations Group\, 325th Fighter Wing\, Tyndall Air Force Base\, Florida. The group’s mission is to project unrivaled combat airpower for America and establish the roots of its new F-35 mission on the way to standing up three combat-ready squadrons. The group also operates Tyndall AFB’s airfield\, controls 4\,500 sq/mi of airspace\, and executes Exercise CHECKERED FLAG on behalf of the Commander\, Air Combat Command. \nCol. Niebuhr entered the Air Force in May 2001 through ROTC as a distinguished graduate from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics. He graduated from Euro-NATO joint jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base\, TX in 2003 and completed F-16 Basic Operational Training Course as a distinguished graduate in March 2004. He has held a variety of flying positions to include F-16 instructor pilot\, FAC(A) Instructor\, and flight examiner. He previously commanded the 24th Tactical Air Support Squadron\, Nellis AFB\, NV. \nPrior to his current position\, he was the Combat Air branch head at the Joint Air Power Competence Centre in Kalkar\, Germany. \nColonel Niebuhr’s operational experience includes Operations NOBLE EAGLE\, ODYSSEY DAWN\, ENDURING FREEDOM\, RESOLUTE SUPPORT and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. He is a Command Pilot with over 3\,600 flight hours\, including over 190 combat sorties and more than 760 combat hours in the F-16. The aircraft he has flown include the T-37\, T-38A\, T-38C\, F-16 and the F-35A. \nWe encourage you to attend this very meaningful ceremony to honor all our veterans. Seating is limited\, so please bring your own chairs. At the conclusion of the ceremony\, Collins Vacation Rentals and Century 21 Collins Realty will be sponsoring lunch\, dessert and drinks for all in attendance\, provided by Gormley’s Gourmet Catering Company and Pollywhogs. Additionally\, the lighthouse will be open to everyone\, with free climbs offered to all veterans.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for local ghost stories\, area legends\, and tales of hauntings in downtown Apalachicola while using ghost-hunting equipment to seek out any lingering spirits. Select tour goers and volunteers will get to use EMF detectors\, and other ghost-hunting equipment at select locations on the tour. Bring your positive energy and let’s try to say “hello” to the ghosts of Apalachicola. The tour will begin in front of the Chamber of Commerce located at 17 Avenue E next to the Dixie Theatre. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) welcome young explorers to embark on an exploration of science\, technology\, engineering\, and math at an upcoming STEM event. This engaging and educational program will take place on Thursday\, November 14\, at 3:30 PM\, at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches. Best of all\, this event is completely free and open to the public—no library card is required! \nThis STEM Space event will feature fun\, hands-on activity where participants will build balloon-powered cars and discover how a simple balloon can set their creations in motion. This interactive activity promises to be both fun and educational for all involved. \nThe STEM Space is designed to inspire curiosity and foster a love for STEM in an interactive and supportive environment. Early exposure to STEM has been closely linked to future academic achievement and career success. By participating in activities that are both fun and educational\, children can develop essential skills like critical thinking and problem-solving\, setting them up for a bright future. This event is best suited for those ages 8-12 years old. \nThis event is just one of the many exciting programs included in the Fall Program Series at the Franklin County Public Libraries. The series offers a variety of activities for all ages\, ensuring that there is something for everyone. In addition to the STEM Space event\, the Fall Program Series features Story Times\, Adult Crafternoons\, Kids Crafts and more. Regular programs will continue as scheduled\, including the Eastpoint Book Chat on the 1st Tuesday at 1:30 pm\, the Carrabelle Book Chat on the 1st Friday at 1:30 pm\, the Eastpoint Writer’s Forum on the 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 pm\, and Tech Help on the 4th Tuesday at 1:00 pm at both branches.
