DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Holocaust Education Resource Council of Tallahassee\, Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is presenting a series of talks on the Holocaust at Camp Gordon Johnston Museum in Carrabelle. These public speaking events will feature Linda Davey\, Holocaust Historian\, and will coincide with the special exhibit on the Holocaust running July 1-August 14. \nThe Holocaust was the Nazi program to eliminate the Jews of Europe during their reign over Germany from 1933 until their defeat by the Allies in 1945. The Nazi party’s “Final Solution” led to the deaths of 12 million people between 1933 and 1945\, including political opponents\, Roma\, homosexuals\, communists\, and six million Jews\, including one million Jewish children. \nHolocaust Education Resource Council (HERC) is a non-profit 501-c3 in Tallahassee that provides instructional guidance\, support\, and resources for educators who teach the history of the Holocaust and their students\, and educational programs for the community at large about Holocaust education and teaching tolerance. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. Carrabelle Beach was the site of many practice beach assault landings. The amphibious training conducted at this site was planned to be the last step before shipping out to England. The museum was established to honor and preserve the heritage of the men and women who trained at Camp Gordon Johnston during WWII. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. SUMMARY:18th Annual Kingfish Shootout
DESCRIPTION:The 18th Annual Kingfish Shootout will be held on August 7th & 8th\, 2021\, with the Captain’s Meeting at C-Quarters Marina the night of August 6th. The Shootout will be for kingfish and spanish mackerel. \nThe guaranteed payout will be $16\,500 with 10 places. You can win $5\,000 for the biggest kingfish. Prizes will be given for Youth Angler (16 years or younger) and Lady Angler for the biggest fish in addition to prize money\, if qualified. Youth and Lady Angler must catch their fish unassisted. The guaranteed payout for Spanish Mackerel will be $3\,500. 1st place is $2\,000\, 2nd place is $1\,000\, 3rd place is $500. Teams can enter both categories but only win in one category. The highest place wins. Make sure to weigh in your biggest fish. The boat Registration Fee is $350 per boat. After July 15th\, the Entry Fee will be $400 per boat. \nWith continuing thoughts of Lisa Crowder Jackson\, we are excited about the potential positive impact this event is going to have not only for the charity\, the Leukemia Research Foundation\, but the City of Carrabelle and Franklin County as a whole.

Members of the St. George Island Turtle Patrol and the Research staff will be on hand to give a presentation on sea turtles. In addition\, they will provide updates about sea turtle nests on the island\, and answer any questions you may have on how to help our beloved critters. You will also get the chance to touch a sea turtle carapace\, or look close-up at loggerhead sea turtle eggs. This air-conditioned event is a wonderful chance to learn more about sea turtles and is great for anyone visiting the area alone or with family. \nThis event is expected to reach capacity\, we recommend arriving early.

DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum will present “Remembering Carrabelle High School”. The month-long exhibit will culminate with a special Carrabelle High School Reunion Reception at the Carrabelle History Museum on Saturday\, July 31 from 2:00-4:00 pm. Guests will have a chance to share nostalgic stories of historic CHS. Alumni can video their favorite legends\, tales\, and yarns. The original\, old Carrabelle school bell\, which has been beautifully restored\, will be installed by volunteers of the Carrabelle History Museum. Light refreshments will be served. \nThe Carrabelle High School exhibit highlights high school sports trophies across the decades\, starting from the 1930s\, including football and girls’ basketball. Vintage cheerleader outfits\, letter sweaters\, stadium cushions\, band jackets\, and cafeteria trays show the transition from Carrabelle Mullets to Green Devils and finally the Panthers. High school yearbooks\, school team\, and activity photos\, and school portraits are featured as well. \nCarrabelle History Museum is located at 106 SE Avenue B\, in historic downtown Carrabelle\, FL. The museum and the exhibit are open Wednesday from 12-5 pm\, Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday from 10 am-5 pm and Sunday from 12-5 pm. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Holocaust Education Resource Council of Tallahassee\, Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is presenting a series of talks on the Holocaust at Camp Gordon Johnston Museum in Carrabelle. These public speaking events will feature Linda Davey\, Holocaust Historian\, and will coincide with the special exhibit on the Holocaust running July 1-August 14. \nThe Holocaust was the Nazi program to eliminate the Jews of Europe during their reign over Germany from 1933 until their defeat by the Allies in 1945. The Nazi party’s “Final Solution” led to the deaths of 12 million people between 1933 and 1945\, including political opponents\, Roma\, homosexuals\, communists\, and six million Jews\, including one million Jewish children. \nHolocaust Education Resource Council (HERC) is a non-profit 501-c3 in Tallahassee that provides instructional guidance\, support\, and resources for educators who teach the history of the Holocaust and their students\, and educational programs for the community at large about Holocaust education and teaching tolerance. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. Carrabelle Beach was the site of many practice beach assault landings. The amphibious training conducted at this site was planned to be the last step before shipping out to England. The museum was established to honor and preserve the heritage of the men and women who trained at Camp Gordon Johnston during WWII. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. SUMMARY:Cape St. George Lighthouse Sunset and Full Moon Climb
DESCRIPTION:The July Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse is a unique opportunity to enjoy the view of St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from the top of the lighthouse. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:30 p.m. and run until 10:00 p.m.  Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis.  No advanced reservations will be taken. Our COVID-19 protocols require each climber to wear a mask.  One group at a time will climb the tower and will exit the tower before the next group is granted access. \nThe cost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk.  For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745.

DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Climb on Friday\, July 23\, from 7:00-10:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. July’s Full Moon is called the Buck Moon. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the evening sky. Guests can also enjoy the fire pit (weather permitting). Plus for this month’s Full Moon event\, there will be live music provided by Kevin Andrew and the Rockulla Performers\, a variety of young talent. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. The museum and gift shop will be open for browsing and shopping. \nThe climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards bold climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for kids. All climbers must be 44 inches tall. Due to the popularity of the Full Moon Climbs\, advance reservations are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event. Call 850-697-2732. \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top. Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. \nCrooked River Lighthouse is located in Carrabelle\, just west of the Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1975 Hwy 98 W\, Carrabelle.
