SUMMARY:Full Moon Lighthouse Climb at Crooked River Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Event on Sunday\, March 24\, from 7:00-9:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the full moon. \nAt this month’s Full Moon event\, gifted musical trio\, “Boats A Rock’n” will be performing a wide range of upbeat\, toe-tapping tunes spanning musical styles from reggae\, folk\, jazz\, rock\, blues as well as a few originals. This lively group features singer songwriter\, Susan David on acoustic rhythm guitar\, harmonica and lead vocals along with Terry Koral on lead guitar and vocals and David Riggs on bass guitar. \nVisitors can have an after-hours visit to the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit for the lighthouse’s original\, historic Fresnel lens. Guests may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. \nFor those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast\, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Evening climbs cost $10 and climb reservations are encouraged due to limited availability. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall and children under 12 (FREE) with ticketed adults. Advance tickets are strongly suggested as slots may sell out and can be purchased on our website or in the lighthouse gift shop.

DESCRIPTION:The Franklin County Public Libraries hosts the next installment of their popular writers’ series\, “Pen to Paper” on Monday\, March 25 at 2 pm at the Carrabelle Branch Library. This session will feature authors Pat Stanford and Dawn Radford along with guest\, Debbie Hooper. The Carrabelle Branch Library is located at 311 St. James Avenue (Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL. \nDuring the series\, authors will discuss the works they have written and those in progress\, followed by a question and answer session. These friendly and informal sessions provide an opportunity to meet these authors and question their experiences. They are open to anyone interested in learning about the writers or the writing process. There is no charge to attend. \nPat Stanford is an award-winning author and poet with the non-fiction Fixing Boo Boo\, a story of traumatic brain injury\, and two books of poetry Proverbs of My Season\, Poetry of Transition\, and a Motley Miscellany\, Misfit Poems That Fit Together. All have won gold medals from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association’s Annual President’s Book Awards. She was born in Philadelphia\, but moved to Florida with her farming family when she was a year old. She has poetry published in several anthologies and won second place in the 2004 Seven Hills Contest with her short story Divorce Sale. She lives in Tallahassee with her husband and rambunctious puppy and is currently working on a book of short stories as well as a second nonfiction. \nDawn Radford grew up in Apalachicola and later earned her Masters in Creative Writing and English from the University of North Carolina. Dawn Radford is both a published novelist and poet. She wrote a novel based in the panhandle area called Oyster Flats\, a fictional tale set in a remote fishing village on the Florida Panhandle. She was the recipient of the prestigious Sherwood Anderson Award in 1993. Published and recognized in a variety of genres including poetry\, short story\, essay and scholarly research\, she has taught in educational\, literary\, community and professional settings. She facilitates the local writer’s forum at the Eastpoint Branch Library which gets together each month. \nDebbie Hooper\, a seasoned photographer\, has published a tribute to Blast on the Bay Nashville Singer Songwriter Festival. In her book\, 10 Year Blast on the Bay\, Hooper weaves together pictures and reflective insights chronicling a decade of the Port St. Joe festival. DESCRIPTION:The March Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Monday\, March 25\, 2024. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the view of St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from the top of the lighthouse. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run until 9:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first come\, first served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:00pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 7:54 p.m. and the “Worm” moon will rise at 8:27p.m. on March 25th. The March full moon is called the Worm moon because as the snows melt and the ground thaws\, earthworms begin to appear and the robins of spring are not far behind. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

Max succeeds and lives up to his idol\, but Merelli regains consciousness and gets into the identical costume\, ready to perform. DESCRIPTION:The Franklin County Public Libraries hosts the next installment of their popular writers’ series\, “Pen to Paper” on Monday\, April 15 at 2 pm at the Carrabelle Branch Library. This session will feature authors Dale Cox and Thomas Becknell. The Carrabelle Branch Library is located at 311 St. James Avenue (Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL.   \nDuring the series\, authors will discuss the works they have written and those in progress\, followed by a question and answer session. These friendly and informal sessions provide an opportunity to meet these authors and question their experiences. They are open to anyone interested in learning about the writers or the writing process. There is no charge to attend. \nDale Cox\, a Southern writer and historian\, is the author of more than one dozen books on Southern history and culture including one about the famous Franklin County site entitled\, “The Fort at Prospect Bluff: History of the Negro Fort on the Apalachicola River” as well as “The Battle of Natural Bridge\, Florida: The Confederate Defense of Tallahassee” about the battle near the St. Marks River. His acclaimed Civil War study – “The Battle of Marianna\, Florida” – was named best in its category by Civil War Books & Authors. Cox has won numerous awards and has been named to the prestigious Bonnie Blue Society for Southern writers.  \nThomas Becknell grew up on the plains and prairies of Wyoming and Nebraska. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and taught literary history and writing for 35 years in Minnesota. His most recent book is Enchantments of the Mississippi: A Contemplative Journey of Time and Place (2022). Thomas lives in Apalachicola with his wife\, PJ Erwin\, and their two dogs.  \nThe last program in the Pen to Paper series will be Monday\, May 13 at 2:00 pm and will feature writers\, Anthony Lee Watkins and David Adlerstein. Select tour goers and volunteers will get to use EMF detectors\, and other ghost hunting equipment at select locations on the tour. Bring your positive energy and let’s try to say “hello” to the ghosts of Apalachicola. The tour will begin in front of the Chamber of Commerce which is located at 17 Avenue E next to the Dixie Theatre and may last up to 90-minutes. Think of our local habitats — seagrass meadows\, oyster reefs\, saltmarshes\, and other wetlands that protect their inhabitants\, retain sediments and dampen storm surges\, filter the air and water of pollutants\, and fix carbon\, thereby helping to curtail carbon dioxide buildup in the atmosphere while capturing nutrients for plant growth. \nOur Open House celebrates FSU’s scientists and their graduate students by providing an opportunity to showcase scientific knowledge of the land and sea. Research labs\, public agencies\, and community organizations will present their work\, and great food will be available from local food trucks. \nGather your friends\, family\, neighbors\, and colleagues\, and take a beautiful drive down to the coast for a FREE day of fun!
