SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Apalachicola River & Floodplain Class
DESCRIPTION:The Apalachicola River has been called “the Lifeblood of the Bay.” Freshwater from the river mixes with salty gulf creating Apalachicola Bay\, one of the most pristine and productive estuaries in the country. The river has always played an important role in Apalachicola’s history and it is vital to our lives today. It is also a significant resource for the state of Florida\, and its freshwater flow is critical to the health and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico. \nParticipants will learn about the ecology\, culture\, and history of the Apalachicola River and floodplain\, as well as come to appreciate the impact interstate relationships play in the control of the river. After the in-class portion\, participants will embark on a journey up the river aboard the ANERR research vessel Henry Lee to get an up-close look at some of the floodplain ecosystems and distributaries of the river. \nTickets for the class are free but must be claimed in advance by visiting our eventbrite page at apalachicolareserve.eventbrite.com. If you have any further questions\, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either Anita Grove at (850) 670-7708 or by email at anita.grove@dep.state.fl.us – or with Josh Eaton at (850) 670-7701 or email him at  joshua.eaton@floridadep.gov

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: The Adventures of Annabelle Lyn
DESCRIPTION:The Adventures of Annabelle Lyn is a trio of female folk artists that brings together heartbreaking original songs\, tight and sweet vocal harmonies\, powerful instrumental solos\, and crowd-pleasing acoustic covers. Based out of Tallahassee\, FL\, these women bring the sounds of euphoric acoustic music across the Southeast\, performing everywhere from rowdy dance stages to intimate home shows to opening for such notable acts as America and The Wood Brothers. \nFeatured on acoustic guitar\, ukulele\, and soaring vocals\, Suncoast Regional Emmy-award-winning musician Kathryn Belle Long crafts songs of hope and passion\, inspired by her Tallahassee upbringing and background in musical theater and dance. Tampa native\, upright bassist and guitarist Elizabeth Fravel brings a background of funky bluegrass and deep southern soul to her music\, singing and writing songs about every heartbreak from the Florida palms to the Arizona deserts. North Carolina fiddler Holly Riley brings with her the screaming solos of Carolina bluegrass\, a diverse background in jazz\, country\, swing\, and rock\, and and sings a set of lonesome songs over clawhammer banjo. \nDon’t miss this amazing trio! The Adventures of Annabelle Lyn will be at Cat Pointe Music on Sunday\, January 12th at 3:00 pm. Seating is limited so get your tickets soon. And don’t forget to BYOB!

SUMMARY:Full Moon Climb
DESCRIPTION:The March Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Monday\, March 9\, 2020. The Sunset/Full Moon Climb will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include light refreshments. Cost is $15.00 for the general public and $10.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. \nThe sun will set at 7:45 p.m. and the “Worm” moon will rise at 7:56 p.m. on March 9th. The March full moon is called the Worm moon because as the snows melt and the ground thaws\, earthworms begin to appear and the robins of spring are not far behind. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nAfter sunset\, people are invited to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the full moon\, as space and time permit. Cost is $10.00 for the general public and $5.00 for SGLA members. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park. \nBecause space is limited\, reservations are recommended. For reservations or more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at (850) 927-7745.
