DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a special Full Moon Lighthouse event on Sunday\, March 28\, 2021 from 7:00-10:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. This special outdoor event will feature live music\, a glowing fire pit\, and low country boil. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the evening sky. Live music will be provided by the Rio Jazz Trio playing Blues\, Ballads\, Bebop and Bossanova. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. The museum and gift shop will be open for browsing and shopping. Admission for this special Full Moon event is $10 per person. (Climbs are not included in this price.) \nFor this month’s special event\, admission must be purchased in advance. Admission cost is $10 per person and includes the live music\, fire pit\, low country boil and museum access. Admission can be paid online or at the Crooked River Lighthouse Gift Shop. \n \nIn addition\, some guests may also choose to enjoy evening tower climbs. The climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Climbers must be 44” tall. A climb timeslot reservation is required and can be made by calling 850-697-2732. Climbers will pay the climb fee (adult $5\, child $3) in the gift shop during the event. \nCOVID protocols limit one party at a time to climb the tower\, and each party will exit before the next one climbs. A limited number of climbers are allowed in each party. Due to the popularity of the evening climbs\, there will be a time limit for viewing from the top.  Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. \nCrooked River Lighthouse Park is located in Carrabelle\, just west of the Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1975 Hwy 98 W\, Carrabelle. DESCRIPTION:Jeff Beal\, lead Florida biologist for Ducks Unlimited\, will tell us about the MK Ranch project\, a key restoration project on the Apalachicola River. MK Ranch comprises approximately 6\,400 acres of historic tidal marsh in the lower Apalachicola River Basin and acts as a filter and storage area for water flowing from upland sites to the tributaries of Lake Wimico and Apalachicola Bay. Previous activity from the 1970s severed the river from its floodplain\, changed water flow patterns restricting freshwater flows into the estuarine system. DESCRIPTION:The Apalachicola Area Historical Society and Carrabelle History Museum are hosting a fascinating history program about Historic Maps of Florida. This lecture will be presented by Peter Cowdrey\, early Florida map specialist\, speaking about these remarkable maps from the Cognetta Family Trust Collection. This program will be held Saturday\, March 20\, 2021\, at 4 – 5 pm ET in the upstairs room at C-Quarters Marina\, 501 St. James Ave (Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL. \nDue to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited to 50 attendees.  The Speaker Series programs are popular and due to COVID precautions\, reservations are required. Reservations are available through AAHS (850) 653-1700 or aahs.raney@gmail.com or Carrabelle History Museum (850) 697-2141 or carrabellehistorymuseum@gmail.com. Masks are required. Seats will be spaced to allow for social distancing. Attendees are asked to follow all health guidelines to help keep themselves safe including social distancing and sanitizing hands frequently.
