DESCRIPTION:This market features vendors from the community with perfect gifts and goodies. There is freshly roasted coffee\, delicious baked goods including cinnamon rolls and artisan bread\, gorgeous art and photography\, handcrafted balms and soaps\, fresh herbs\, vegetable seeds\, handmade goods\, and craft items\, produce\, and exotic starter plants. \nThe Crooked River Lighthouse Park now has its own garden! Currently\, lighthouse staff and volunteers are offering seeds and fresh herbs for sale during the markets. They are also selling hot-boiled peanuts. \nSinger/songwriter Susan David will again provide live music on the Keeper’s House’s front porch! \nAt 1:00 pm\, local herbalist Denise Williams will take visitors for a guided medicinal plant walk. Denise will lead guests for this 30-minute walk around the lighthouse’s grounds and explore its natural resources. The walk costs $5 and accepts a max of 10 people. \nGuests can also visit the free Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique nautical gifts. Also\, shoppers have the unique opportunity to climb to the lighthouse’s top for a breathtaking view of the Bay. \nNew and returning vendors are always welcome. The cost to be a vendor is $10. DESCRIPTION:Come listen and learn about an fascinating history program entitled\, “Florida in World War I”. Learn about the contributions of Florida in WWI as well as the impact of the 1918 pandemic on Florida. This program and lecture features author Joe Knetsch\, who is an American historian and author who has published eight books and over 200 articles in numerous journals. Joe has a B.S. from Western Michigan University\, an M.A. from Florida Atlantic University and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. He taught at both the secondary and collegiate levels\, and worked as a historian for the Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Natural Resources. \nThere is no charge for this event but reservations are required. The History Speaker Series programs are popular and due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited. Reservations are required by emailing carrabellehistorymuseum@gmail.com. Seats will be spaced to allow for social distancing. Attendees are asked to follow all health guidelines to help keep themselves safe including social distancing and sanitizing hands frequently. DESCRIPTION:If you’re an artist planning a Spring getaway to the Forgotten Coast\, consider planning your dates to coincide with this two-day workshop for the traveller (April 7 & 8 from 10 am – 1 pm each day). \nEver wanted to walk around your favorite historic neighborhood\, downtown\, or waterfront bar/restaurant and quickly draw and/or paint the scene in front of you in about an hour with a minimum amount of gear? Or how about when you’re stuck inside on a rainy day\, and want to paint those favorite travel photos from your phone or tablet. \nIn this workshop\, Mike Rooney\, known to plein air artists from Key West to the Carolinas for his fun and insightful classes\, will show you how to take a pen\, a pad of paper\, and a palm sized watercolor set and do just that. Make it a fast travel sketch or a finished painting; or create your own watercolor sketchbook journal. It’s up to you. Meet at the gallery and then go out and paint scenes in and around downtown Apalachicola. Rooney will cover drawing and watercolor tips like: simple tricks for perfect perspective; drawing and painting trees\, buildings\, cars\, and people; watercolor techniques for washes\, splatters\, and more. \nMike is recognized as one of the east coast’s top plein air painters\, and his work is widely collected. SUMMARY:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum Remember the Battle of Okinawa
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum presents a special exhibit on the most violent and costliest campaign of WWII\, the battle to take Okinawa. The exhibit will include historical photos and Marine Corps artifacts\, some of which were recently acquired. The battle started with the Kerama Islands’ capture by the 77th infantry Division on March 26\, 1945\, and ended 98 days later\, on July 2. This effort involved three marine divisions and four infantry divisions making up the Tenth Army\, which had its tactical air force\, and was supported by naval and amphibious commands. The battle cost more lives on both sides than any other campaign in the Pacific. The taking of Okinawa provided a base from which Operation Downfall\, the Japanese mainland invasion\, was to be launched. Operation Downfall\, of course\, was made unnecessary by the surrender of Japan in September of 1945. \nThere is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a special Full Moon Lighthouse event on Sunday\, March 28\, 2021 from 7:00-10:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. This special outdoor event will feature live music\, a glowing fire pit\, and low country boil. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the evening sky. Live music will be provided by the Rio Jazz Trio playing Blues\, Ballads\, Bebop and Bossanova. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. The museum and gift shop will be open for browsing and shopping. Admission for this special Full Moon event is $10 per person. (Climbs are not included in this price.) \nFor this month’s special event\, admission must be purchased in advance. Admission cost is $10 per person and includes the live music\, fire pit\, low country boil and museum access. Admission can be paid online or at the Crooked River Lighthouse Gift Shop. \n \nIn addition\, some guests may also choose to enjoy evening tower climbs. The climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Climbers must be 44” tall. A climb timeslot reservation is required and can be made by calling 850-697-2732. Climbers will pay the climb fee (adult $5\, child $3) in the gift shop during the event. \nCOVID protocols limit one party at a time to climb the tower\, and each party will exit before the next one climbs. A limited number of climbers are allowed in each party.
