Guests are invited to a special Meet & Greet with Roger Leonard on Saturday\, October 1st from 6-9 pm at Rio Carrabelle with food\, drink & music. \nRoger Leonard graduated from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota\, Florida in 1974 and has won numerous awards. He worked in commercial art for over 20 years making advertising art and illustrations as well as creating many portraits and murals. After 20 years of commercial art\, Roger turned to fine art and sought the freedom of painting only for himself. “Art for me is strictly my need to do it. I need to capture the time\, place\, feeling of being there\, of knowing my subjects intimately. I work hard and try to make it work visually. What it means\, I don’t know and I don’t care. The joy for me is the creating and the painting\, then watching and listening to those who enjoy it also. When I hear people’s comments like\, “I know that place – I can feel the heat – I can smell the rain\, the sea – I’d really like to walk there – That looks like what I feel\,” then I know they sense what I saw.” says Roger Leonard. \nRoger lived and worked in a studio/home on Dog Island for 15 years\, in a rural and isolated environment that inspired him. SUMMARY:September Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The September Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Saturday\, September 10\, 2022. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run until 9:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:00 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments are accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 7:50 p.m. and the “Harvest” moon will rise at 8:23 p.m. on September 10th. The September full moon is called the Harvest moon because Native American tribes began harvesting their staple foods\, such as corn\, pumpkins\, squash\, beans\, and rice at this time. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

SUMMARY:Cancelled: Drum Circle and Native American Drum Ceremony at the Full Moon Climb at Crooked River Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The event has been canceled due to expected inclement weather. \nThe Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Climb and Sacred Drum Ceremony on Saturday\, September 10\, from 8-10 pm in Carrabelle\, Florida.  Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the full Harvest Moon or Corn Moon.  Paul Eagleheart from the Lipan Apache Tribe will be conducting a Native American drum ceremony during the event. Guests can also enjoy the fire pit (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. \nIn honor of the Harvest or Corn Moon\, the lighthouse will be hosting an informal drumming circle during this event. Anyone that has a drum is welcome to bring it and join in. The Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the start of fall or the autumnal equinox. This full moon name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn and other crops were harvested. \nIn addition to the informal drum circle\, Paul Eagleheart from the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas will be joining this event. He will be doing a sacred\, Native American drum ceremony in honor of the full moon. Paul Eagleheart has done many ceremonies for causes including protection of sacred sites. He will begin the ceremony with a prayer song and will be explaining several Native American traditions. \nWhile at the lighthouse\, guests can also visit the free Keeper’s House Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. \nThe climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards bold climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Advance reservations are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event by calling the gift shop. \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top. Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. Masks are welcome but not required. \nCrooked River Lighthouse is located in Carrabelle\, just west of the Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1975 Hwy 98 W\, Carrabelle. He worked in commercial art for over 20 years making advertising art and illustrations as well as creating many portraits and murals. After 20 years of commercial art\, Roger turned to fine art and sought the freedom of painting only for himself. “Art for me is strictly my need to do it. SUMMARY:Bay Fest & Tate's Hell 5 K
DESCRIPTION:Tate’s Hell 5K & Bay Fest will be a full day of outdoor adventure on Saturday\, October 1\, 2022. The event will take place at St James Bay Golf Resort\, just east of Carrabelle\, FL\, and includes fun for the entire family. Activities include a 5K run and walk\, bike safety rodeo\, pickleball tournament\, live music\, food specials\, an auction\, and more. \nAt 8 am\, the day kicks off with the 7th annual Tate’s Hell 5K Run & Walk. This scenic course winds through the wooded forest and meanders through wetlands (via a boardwalk) along the cart path and streets around the beautiful Audubon Sanctuary golf course. St James Bay property backs directly to Tate’s Hell on the Crooked River keeping true to the Tate’s Hell theme. All ages are welcome to join this family-friendly run and walk. A race shirt is included with all registrations received before September 1st. Registrations are welcome up until Race Day\, but a shirt cannot be guaranteed after the Sept 1st deadline. \nThis event has much in store this year. Families\, including children 3 years and up\, are encouraged to join in the Bike Safety Rodeo from 10 am-12 pm. Everyone who completes this bike safety course will receive an AAA bike safety certification. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets for a safety check and fitting. A limited number of loaner bikes and helmets will also be available. This event is free to children and adults. The first 50 children riders will receive a free helmet and shirt and several bikes will be raffled off! For more info on the Bike Safety Rodeo\, call 850-345-1379. \nThe fun continues with a Pickleball Tournament! This tournament\, hosted by the St. James Bay Pickleball Club\, has options for both beginner and intermediate levels. Beginner level begins at 10 am and intermediate at 12 pm.
