SUMMARY:Art Exhibition for talented artist\, Cyndi Thau
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle is excited to present a delightful art exhibition featuring the art of the talented Cyndi Thau in the historic art venue\, Rio Carrabelle in Carrabelle\, Florida. Cyndi’s art has been called colorful\, inspiring\, and welcoming. Color\, form and light are the ingredients of these paintings. This beautiful art is on display now and the exhibition will run through the end of August. \nCyndi Thau has always wanted to keep art as a central focus of her life. She completed studies at Arizona State University. Her personal creations have included murals\, mosaics\, bead work and painting\, especially oil painting with a glazing technique\, becoming an instructor of this method. “I am fascinated by the forms\, colors\, depth and play of light and shadow that interact in the painting. I use thin layer upon layer of oil paint to achieve the translucency that I associate with all the things in nature.” \nIn recent years Cyndi studied the Plein Air style\, painting from direct observation. Water\, in specific the creek and ocean\, are her favorite subjects. “I love translating the movement of water onto canvas. Always flowing\, never still\, the reflection of light on and through water are both a challenge and a delight to capture”. \nCyndi resides along Florida’s Forgotten Coast where she walks the gulf coast beaches to collect shells that she uses for centerpieces in her bead work\, and continues to paint the water she so loves. Dividing her time between the studio glazing technique and painting outdoors en plein air Cyndi continues to create oil paintings with the depth and translucency she is known for. \nRio Carrabelle Art Gallery is open for new Summer Hours on Thursday-Saturdays from 10 am -3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique art and music destination located in beautiful downtown Carrabelle and features the artwork of local artists William Owen\, Pat Moore\, Barb Ryan\, Roger Leonard\, Bo May as well as Joe Kotzman. Visit riocarrabelle.com or on Facebook\, The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle\, for more information.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on the Atomic Bomb and the End of WWII
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Atomic Bomb and the End of WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, July 18 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, August 26. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. \nIn August of 1945\, an atomic bomb was dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and then Nagasaki. Much has been debated about the decision to develop and use atomic weapons\, but historians generally agree that Germany\, Japan\, and the Soviet Union were well on their way to developing their own\, and both the Allies and the Japanese predicted that the invasion of the Japanese Homeland would have costs millions of lives on both sides. \nOn August 14\, 1945\, the Japanese surrendered without qualifications to the U.S. and preparations began for an official surrender and the end of World War II. On September 2\, the formal surrender documents were signed. This day is celebrated as Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) in the U.S. \nThis special exhibit commemorates the anniversary of the two bombings that brought WWII to a close. It will explore what made these bombs so destructive\, and how they were kept secret. Also displayed are artifacts relevant to the surrender\, souvenirs from Japan\, photos of post-war Japan and more. Visitors can use a Geiger counter to measure the radioactivity of samples of uraninite and trinitite\, and see vintage film of the aftermath of the bombs in Japan.
