SUMMARY:The August Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The August Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Saturday\, August 9\, 2025. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:00 p.m. and run until 10:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be made. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 people are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:30 p.m. that night to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 8:25 p.m. and the “Sturgeon” moon will rise at 8:57 p.m. on August 9th. The August full moon is called the Sturgeon moon because sturgeon\, large fish common to the Great Lakes and other large bodies of water\, are most readily caught in August. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Twilight at the Tower at Crooked River Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a special evening event\, Twilight at the Tower\, on Friday\, August 8 from 8:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. Festivities include a Fishing for Treasures game for kids\, plus after-hour museum tours and evening tower climbs. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the golden glow of the setting sun and rising Sturgeon Moon. Attendees are welcome to bring a chair and relax under the evening sky. Donations are warmly welcome to support the lighthouse. \nThe moon in August is called the Sturgeon Moon because of the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain; this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. (Credit: Almanac.com) \nVisitors can tour the Keeper’s House Museum and see the original\, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will also be offering unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Guests are welcome to bring a chair and relax as the color of the sky goes from watercolor hues to evening blues and the first evening star appears. \nThose who wish to climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast can take part in twilight tower climbs. From the top\, climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views\, the colors of the sunset\, and the glow of the rising moon. Evening climbs cost $10 and are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Due to limited availability\, climb reservations are strongly encouraged. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Children under 12 climb free with ticketed adults. Advance tickets can be purchased in the lighthouse gift shop or online.

DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting Coastal Twilight at the Tower on Friday\, August 8 from 8:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special after-hours event invites visitors to enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as the sun sets below the horizon and the Sturgeon Moon rises. \nThe moon in August is called the Sturgeon Moon because of the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain; this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. (Credit: Almanac.com) \nVisitors can tour the Keeper’s House Museum and see the original\, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will also be offering unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Guests are welcome to bring a chair and relax as the sky goes from golden sunset hues to evening blues. \nThose who wish to climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast can take part in twilight tower climbs. From the top\, climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views\, the colors of the sunset\, and the glow of the rising moon. Evening climbs cost $10 and are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Due to limited availability\, climb reservations are strongly encouraged. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Children under 12 climb free with ticketed adults. Advance tickets can be purchased in the lighthouse gift shop or online.

DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Summer Reading Program crafts some fun on Thursday\, July 24 with Kids Art Workshop making Sand Art at 11:00 AM at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle Branch Libraries. This will be a creative program for kids where they can create fun masterpieces with sand and vibrant colors. Registration is required. This program is best suited for those ages 6-12 years old. All library programs are free with all materials included and open to the public with no library card required. Sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, the Summer Reading Program features imaginative activities for all ages. \nThis year’s Summer Reading Program theme\, “Color Our World\,” highlights art and creativity at the Franklin County Public Libraries. The program is designed to inspire and engage readers of all ages through a variety of artistic expressions. Guests are invited to celebrate every page\, paint stroke\, and performance that adds a little more color to the world. \nSummer Reading is an annual program that brings children\, teens\, and families to local public libraries for reading and activities. A Summer Reading Program: \n\nencourages lifelong reading habits\,\nsupports reluctant readers with activities\,\nhelps children maintain their skills over the summer\,\ngenerates interest in the library and books\, and it being summer\,\ncan just be good fun and provide an opportunity for family time.
