SUMMARY:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The October Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Wednesday\, October 20\, 2021. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 6:00 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 7:03 p.m. and the “Hunter’s” moon will rise at 7:21 p.m. on October 20. This full Moon is often referred to as the Full Hunter’s Moon\, Blood Moon\, or Sanguine Moon. Many moons ago\, Native Americans named this bright moon for obvious reasons. The leaves are falling from trees\, the deer are fattened\, and it is time to begin storing up meat for the long winter ahead. Because the fields were traditionally reaped in late September or early October\, hunters could easily see foxes and other animals that come out to glean from the fallen grains. Probably because of the threat of winter looming close\, the Hunter’s Moon is generally accorded with special honor\, historically serving as an important feast day in both Western Europe and among many Native American tribes. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

DESCRIPTION:The St. George Lighthouse Association will be hosting a Spooktacular Trick-or-Treat Trail on Friday\, October 29th from 7:00-9:00 pm. This safe\, family-friendly Halloween event will be held in SGI Lighthouse Park. There will be multiple candy stations set up along the sidewalk and spooky decorations lighting up the park. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to set up a station to pass out candy. Space is very limited and spots must be reserved in advance by emailing info@stgeorgelight.org or by calling 850-653-6880. Guests are encouraged to wear their best fun and scary costumes. Parking is available in the main lighthouse parking area and guests will enter the event through the western sidewalk closest to Gulf Beach Drive. The St. George Lighthouse Association is a non-profit organization and continues to fulfill its mission through the support of our community\, visitors\, and lighthouse association members. While donations are not required; they are graciously accepted. We hope you will all join us for this free\, fun\, family event!

DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is excited to announce a special exhibit honoring Native American Servicemen. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, November 2\, and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, November 27. November is National Native American Heritage Month\, and the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum salutes their service and sacrifice. The museum and exhibit are open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm and there is no charge for admission.  \n“During World War I and World War II\, hundreds of American Indians joined the United States armed forces and used words from their traditional tribal languages as weapons. The United States military asked them to develop secret battle communications based on their languages—and America’s enemies never deciphered the coded messages they sent. “Code Talkers\,” as they came to be known after World War II\, are twentieth-century American Indian warriors and heroes who significantly aided the victories of the United States and its allies. \nThe Code Talkers’ role in war required intelligence and bravery. They developed and memorized a special code. They endured some of the most dangerous battles and remained calm under fire. They served proudly\, with honor and distinction. Their actions proved critical in several important campaigns\, and they are credited with saving thousands of American and allies’ lives.”\n(Source: The National Museum of the American Indian). \nCome to the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum during this special exhibit and learn about the Native Americans who fought for the United States in World War II. DESCRIPTION:The St. George Lighthouse Association in partnership with SGI Veterans Reveille Group and the 106th American Legion in Apalachicola invite everyone to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony in Lighthouse Park on Thursday\, November 11\, 2021\, at 11 AM. \nVeterans Day is an official United States public holiday\, observed annually on November 11\, that honors military veterans; that is\, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.\nGuest speaker will be Major General Donald Ralph\, US Air Force\, Retired. He retired in 2015 as the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander\, Air Force Special Operations Command\, Hurlburt Field\, Florida. He served as the principal advisor to the Commander for all reserve component matters and oversees reserve force readiness\, integration\, operations\, and mobilization in time of crisis and war. \nGeneral Ralph entered the Air Force in 1980 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He served as a C-130 advanced flying training instructor pilot\, followed by an Air Staff Training assignment at the Pentagon. He was then selected initial cadre aircraft commander to fly the B-1B bomber at McConnell AFB\, Kansas followed by selection to attend U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. General Ralph has served as an instructor\, flight examiner and operations officer of a tactical airlift squadron. He commanded the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron\, the world famous “Hurricane Hunters.” Over his 35-year career\, he has worked for commanders of two combatant commands and commanders of four major commands. In his civilian occupation\, he is employed as an international captain on the B-767 for a major airline. \nWe encourage you to attend as we honor all veterans and fill Lighthouse Park for this very important event. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony and the lighthouse will be open to everyone with free climbs offered to all veterans.

SUMMARY:Crooked River Lighthouse Full Moon Climb
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting another one of its popular Full Moon Lighthouse Climbs on Friday\, November 19\, from 5-8 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising full moon. With cooler weather here\, guests are invited to relax by the large\, glowing fire pit and enjoy some delicious complimentary s’mores (weather permitting). Visitors can also enjoy hot chocolate on the front porch. The museum and gift shop will be open for browsing and shopping. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. \nThe climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards bold climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for kids. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Due to the popularity of the Full Moon Climbs\, advance reservations are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event. Call 850-697-2732. \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top.  Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. SUMMARY:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The November Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Friday\, November 19\, 2021. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 5:00 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 5:42 p.m. and the “Beaver” moon will rise at 6:00 p.m. on November 19th. The November full moon is called the Beaver Moon because at this time of year beavers are preparing for winter\, and it is the time to set beaver traps to ensure a supply of warm winter furs before the swamps freeze over. Full Moon names are attributable to Native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting a fascinating history program entitled\, “Right On Time: Buck O’Neil and Black Baseball”. This program features author\, Wes Singletary and baseball aficionado\, Josh Weaver and will be held Saturday\, November 20\, 2021\, from 10 am – 12 pm in the upstairs room at C-Quarters Marina\, 501 St. James Ave (Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL. Due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited. There is no charge for this event but reservations are required. \nJohn Jordan “Buck” O’Neil was born in Carrabelle\, FL on November 13\, 1911. He became a famous first baseman and manager for the Kansas City Monarchs\, a Negro Leagues team. In 1956 he joined the Chicago Cubs as one of the first African-American scouts in Major League Baseball. Then the first African-American coach in the Major Leagues in 1962. Buck also founded the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City\, MO\, and was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. \nThe History Speaker Series programs are popular and due to COVID precautions\, seating will be limited to 50 attendees. Reservations are required by emailing carrabellehistorymuseum@gmail.com. Masks are required. Seats will be spaced to allow for social distancing. Attendees are asked to follow all health guidelines including social distancing and sanitizing hands frequently. There is no fee for this program. Donations are gladly accepted to defray costs. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Lighthouse Gift Shop on Sunday\, November 21st from Noon-6:00pm for our 5th Annual Holiday Sip N’ Shop. ALL items will be on sale and the featured items will include unique jewelry\, holiday cards\, ornaments and décor\, toys\, games\, puzzles\, crafts from local artists and so much more! At least 20% off original price on ALL merchandise! Enjoy light refreshments all day and wine beginning at 4:00 pm. Get a jump on your Christmas shopping and support local! \nThe Cape St. George Lighthouse Gift Shop is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park. \nThe Gift Shop is part of the St. George Lighthouse Association\, a non-profit organization.
