DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a special Full Moon Lighthouse Event on Friday\, March 18\, 2022\, Sunday\, March 20\, 2022\, from 6:00-10:00 pm in Carrabelle\, FL. This special outdoor event will feature a delicious low country boil (served from 6:00-8:00 pm) followed by live music (8:00-10:00 pm). Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the gorgeous evening sky. Admission for this special Full Moon event is $15 for adults / $8 for children (6-16) and must be purchased in advance. (Climbs are not included in this price at this special full moon event.) \nLive music will be provided by the Rio Jazz Trio playing Blues\, Ballads\, Bebop\, and Bossanova. Guests can also visit the Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Visitors can also relax next to the warm bonfire at the large fire pit (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening. \nFor this month’s special event\, admission must be purchased in advance. Admission cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children (6-16) and includes the low country boil (served from 6:00-8:00 pm)\, live music (from 8:00-10:00 pm)\, glowing bonfire at the fire pit\, and museum access. Admission can be paid online at https://www.crookedriverlighthouse.com/full-moon-climb/ or at the Crooked River Lighthouse Gift Shop. \nIn addition\, some guests may also choose to enjoy evening tower climbs during this event. The climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. Climbers must be 44” tall. Due to the popularity of the Full Moon events\, a climb timeslot reservation is required in advance and can be made by calling 850-697-2732. Climbers will pay the climbing fee (adult $5\, child $3) in the gift shop during the event. \nA limited number of climbers (max of 7) are allowed at one time. There will be a time limit for viewing from the top. Guests who would like a more leisurely climbing experience are welcome to enjoy one of the daytime climbs available every Wednesday through Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Sweet Tea at the B&B is the third installment in Jerry Hurley’s Sweet Tea saga. Sweet Tea at the B & B takes place in Apalachicola at the height of the Great Depression. It’s 1932 and everybody seems to be flat broke. Cleopatra Singleton\, the matriarch of the family and owner of Singleton House thinks that she might be the only person in town with money but that’s only because grandson Beauregard is selling off the family heirlooms to keep granny financially afloat. More money is needed and that’s when Beau and his Uncle Bertie decide to open a B & B. With dark Jamaican rum that looks a lot like sweet tea and with the help of “the girls”\, Trixie\, Mona\, and Velvet\, they figure out a way to make Singleton House a hilarious new business venture.

Cost is $10 at the door\, which includes a Walkin’ Taco and a drink plus the supplies and in-person instruction for guests to make a piece of fish rubbing art on rice paper to take home. All materials are supplied to make a frame-able piece of art. Anyone wishing to make a second fish rubbing on a T-shirt is welcome to bring a plain\, newish T-shirt with them. This performance will also include string\, wind\, and harpsichord accompaniment to enhance the brilliant\, celebratory style of the baroque era. It is the perfect choice of music to showcase the talent of the Bay Area Choral Society.

Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to see the gorgeous natural surroundings of the St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising full moon. If the night skies are clear enough\, you might even be able to spot Dog Island!  \nAt this month’s Full Moon event\, the Crooked River Lighthouse will have a gifted musical duo\, “Boats a Rock’n”. “Boats a Rock’n” features singer/ songwriter\, Susan David on acoustic rhythm guitar\, harmonica\, and lead vocals and guitarist\, Terry Koral on lead guitar and vocals. This lively acoustic guitar duo plays a wide range of upbeat\, toe-tapping tunes spanning musical styles from reggae\, folk\, jazz\, rock\, blues as well as a few originals. \nGuests can also visit the free Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Visitors can also enjoy the glowing fire pit (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.  \nThe climb to the top of the tallest Forgotten Coast lighthouse rewards bold climbers with breathtaking views of the bay. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for kids. All climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Due to the popularity of the Full Moon Climbs\, advance reservations are required for those who wish to climb the lighthouse tower during this event. DESCRIPTION:The April Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Saturday\, April 16\, 2022. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the view of St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from the top of the lighthouse. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:00 p.m. and run until 10:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:30 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 8:07 p.m. and the “Pink” moon will rise at 8:16 p.m. on April 16. The April full moon is called the Pink moon in tribute to wild ground phlox\, also called “pinks\,” which is one of the earliest widespread flowers to appear in the spring. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.

DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is excited to announce a special exhibit on “Carrabelle in the 1930s” that will be opening on Sunday\, May 1\, and be on display through Sunday\, May 29. There is no charge for admission but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays thru Saturdays 10 am – 5 pm and Sundays 12 – 5 pm. \nAll month long\, the Carrabelle History Museum will be celebrating the anniversary of the original opening of the now historic City Hall Building\, which currently houses the Carrabelle History Museum. Carrabelle’s Historic City Hall first opened to the public on May 2\, 1938. This building was the result of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project and was described at the time of its construction as “one of the finest buildings in the state for a city of this size.” The structure is a two-story brick vernacular style of that period. Carrabelle’s original City Hall was constructed by Marvin N. Justiss\, a local mason of note who is said to have built half of Carrabelle. Mr. Justiss hand-made the concrete blocks in wooden forms. Each one weighs over 60 pounds. \nIn addition\, this exhibit will also explore what Carrabelle and Franklin County were like during that era. Fun\, cultural highlights will be shared as well as serious items of note happening in the world to provide context to 1930s Carrabelle. Visitors are invited to come to the museum to learn about Captain Wing’s ferry between Carrabelle and Apalachicola\, the opening of the first bridge across the Apalachicola Bay connecting Carrabelle to Apalachicola by road\, and the sinking of the Steamship Tarpon. This was the era of steamships\, ferries\, brand new bridges\, big band swing\, and jazz music\, all the while the Nazis were already consolidating power and World War II was brewing. \nThis exhibit will consist of a newly restored original jail cell door\, a display on the construction methods of the City Hall building\, historic photos of Franklin County from the 1930s\, historical newspaper articles\, plus artifacts and music from the 1930s.\n.\nCarrabelle History Museum is located\, one block from Carrabelle Harbor\, at 106 SE Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. DESCRIPTION:The St. George Lighthouse Association is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting the1st Annual SGI ShrimpFest on May 14\, 2022\, from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm in the western parking area adjacent to Lighthouse Park. \nThis family and community-oriented festival will be a one-day event offering patrons great outdoor musical entertainment\, a fairway of games for the children sponsored by the Forgotten Coast Parrothead Club\, and the chance to dine on the freshest and most delicious local shrimp dishes.\nMusical entertainment will be provided by two awesome acts. Local favorites\, Hot Mess with special guest JB Babich\, will start the day with their blend of Zydeco Swamp Pop and the legendary\, Bill Wharton\, a.k.a “The Sauce Boss”\, will be headlining this year’s festival. Bill’s music is a fun blend of roots and swampy Florida blues-rock. This singer/songwriter is a slide guitar player and gumbo chef…cooking up a mind-blowing gumbo right on stage then passing out the tasty results at set’s end. If you like lowdown-boogie blues\, you are going to love The Sauce Boss. \nTickets for the event will be $5.00 and are available online now at www.sgishrimpfest.com or in person at the Lighthouse Gift Shop beginning April 5th. Children four years of age and under are free but still require the “purchase” of a free ticket for entry. Because this is a first-year event and we want to be sure to serve all attendees\, there will only be 2500 pre-festival tickets sold\, so grab yours while you can! \nThe SGI Shrimp Festival is a fundraiser for the St. George Lighthouse Association (SGLA). The SGLA is a 501c3 non-profit Florida corporation organized to preserve\, maintain\, and promote the Cape St. George Lighthouse. Funds raised are vital for the on-going maintenance and enhancement of the Lighthouse\, the Keeper’s House Museum\, and Lighthouse Park. To that end\, festival organizers are looking for event sponsors and supporters. SUMMARY:Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The May Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Monday\, May 16\, 2022. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the view of St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico\, and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky from the top of the lighthouse. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:00 p.m. and run until 10:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be taken. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 persons are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:30 pm to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 8:25 p.m. and the “Flower” moon will rise at 9:23 p.m. on May 16. The May full moon is called the Flower Moon because flowers are in abundant bloom at this time. Full Moon names are attributable to native American tribes\, most notably the Algonquin\, who named the moons to mark the changing seasons. \nThe Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots at either side of the park.
